I don’t like to think that I’m the person that can do it all and seem invincible, as some parents tend to stuff in my mouth, but if it’s a do or die matter and you need someone to count on, I’d like to be put in position to go get the winning moment.
Picking up my camera for the first time a decade ago, my goals seemed very farfetched, but I would do whatever I could to get myself out there. Even if I get called to go out many miles away from home, being tight on money, losing more money than what I could make, but in all love for the sport. At times, instead of flying home, I’d take a bus to save money so that I could eat and make bills, but I never wanted to give up or be lazy because I knew that it would be disrespectful to people who believed in me and I survived too many storms to be bothered by rain drops.
Over the years..I sometimes get tired and wonder when the final page will be. I don’t know the answer to that. But what I do know is that I’m not going to be here forever, but when my time comes, I’ll be leaving this space better than how I found it.
It’s astonishing to see that so many tournaments around the country have a set standard of having a designated person to take photos. The msgs I get from people being inspired to pick up a camera, asking me how to get started will never get old. I don’t like being told that people want to be as good as me, bc you all can be better. Just remember that developing a skill like this is like getting a haircut, never judge harshly until the end. You should have a purpose before anyone has opinions and that you have to work in the dark in order to shine in the light.
This trip down with Bintang was special for me. Coming back down to LA where I got my first big call, which led to open doors and where I got signed with Bintang. The days go by slowly but the years go by fast. One decade, thousands of images/memories down and who knows how many more to go. Norcalbadmintonphotography.com > Chris Do > Chris M Chieng. Thanks for making it more fun and colorful than I could’ve ever imagined. I’m happy to be here with all of you.
